PB Sports

OVERVIEW
With the addition of staff experienced in sports marketing and public relations, Patterson/Bach began to develop a new client base of sportsrelated companies. Because of the uniqueness and specialization of the sports industry, the agency decided to create a division devoted specifically to it. The name PB Sports was selected and a logo was created for the new division.

OBJECTIVES
Patterson/Bach chose to launch PB Sports during the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce After Hours event hosted by the agency at its offices. The primary objectives of the launch party were as follows:

  • Introduce the local business community and the agency's current clients to PB Sports.
  • Alert the Central Florida sports industry of creation of a new sports marketing and public relations division.
  • Promote PB Sports current clients.

IMPLEMENTATION
Since PB Sports’ initial client list consisted of primarily motorsports-related companies, a motorsports theme was adopted for the event. An advertisement for placement in the Orlando Sentinel and a flyer were created and provided to the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce to promote the event to its membership and other local businesspersons.

Patterson/Bach chose to develop a VIP invitation for distribution to its clients, media and key figures in the Central Florida sports industry. In keeping with the event's theme, the VIP invitation was designed to look like a credential to a sporting event. A brief letter from the agency's president accompanied the VIP invitations inside eye-catching metallic silver packaging for mailing.

With the event being held in the parking lot of the agency's office, extensive decorations were required to properly convey the event's theme. PB Sports client Automatic Racing supplied its BMW M3 race car for display during the event. The agency created a large poster to display with the race car, touting its technical specifications and achievements. During the event, guests were invited to not only have their photo taken beside the car, but also to climb behind the wheel for an insiders’ view.

Daytona International Speedway provided a variety of oversized banners, which were displayed on fencing around the parking lot and the building’s exterior. The Speedway also supplied a life-size stand-up display of driver Scott Riggs and a promotional race car hood that were used for decoration, as well as racing posters that were given away to guests. Spirit of Daytona Racing donated 16 Goodyear Racing tires previously used on the team's race car that were stacked and placed around the parking lot for the event. The event’s décor was complemented with checkered flag table clothes and streaming pennants.

The agency highlighted its current PB Sports clients by displaying mounted posters of pieces it created such as the Synergy Racing media kit, International Speedway Corporation annual report and AAA Daytona 500 program advertisement.
